SHhhh!

I have just been kindly informed by Ed Quartex, who has just put together a mix especially for Middle, about new clothing brand and art collective, SHhhh!

'We are a team of young up and coming artists, illustrators, photographers, film makers, DJ’s, bands skateboarders and other creative folk. We like to draw on walls and party hard!'

SHhhh! are in fact endorsing Ed and Lyrical (mc that works with Ed), so a lot of respect goes to the brand for promoting up and coming artists! I will be contacting SHhh! to see if they have any talented Midlanders who would be interested in featuring on the Middle Mag website!

VILE

I have never seen boots this horrific. Uggs are a crime as it is, let alone with tacky diamantes all over them and in a range of pukeesque colours. Delightful!

ZERO 7 PIXMIX

Check this fresh Zero 7 pixmix released last week, it's ridiculously good. Im addicted!
Obviously Zero 7 have been established and AMAZING for many years now, but this mix is a bran new release, and new is Middle's middle name! Ha.

A RARE FIND...

Spotted these two style angels in town the other day and I HAD to get a picture! They are Jake and Charlottle Birch, and yes, they're brother and sister! Jake sent us an email saying they'd like to get involved with the magazine as he's a fashion photographer and Charlotte's a fashion designer! ..will DEFINATELY be slotting these two either on the website or in the magazine somewhere!

SOUTH CITY

Going to Ibiza Mix - South City (March 2010) by South City

Lewe-James mini-mix jan mix 2010 by LeweJames&ForrestDee

Met this cool guy at Godskitchen Al Fresco on saturday night, and he just so happened to be a 21 year old DJ called Darstan Forrest! This is a mix from 2009 and one from 2010 by South City, his joint project. Watch out for more mixes, the boys got talent!

KOKOMA

http://www.kokoma.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/showreel.html

Came across Kokoma when listening to Fasern by Peter Grummich, the stop frame animation for the song is really cool, pretty messed up, but cool. Here's the video from youtube, and the link at the top takes you to Kokoma's showreel of work.

This type of video art would be a great feature for the Middle Magazine website!

JUST SO FINE

I could make a whole magazine on Ash Stymest!

WORKING ON GRAPHIX...

ODD BEAUTY

Taken from the I LOVE FAKE blog, I've found these photographs taken by Johnathon Waiter.

He dares to go beyond the natural beauty of his subjects, to catch them with wry faces and "ugly" grimaces. "Ugly" because the result isn't that unsightly straight away. "I like a certain oddness, or maybe something that reminds me of a wild animal", and he "want[s] the viewer to ask questions about the girl or have an intuitive feeling about the girls personality or mental state" (via). His images make you question beauty, instead of giving answers about it, instead of telling you what is beauty and what is not. - http://ilovefakemagazine.blogspot.com/

Could consider this for our photoshoot with Marie as she can make some pretty strange faces!

HARRY WILSON: SKATECRAZEDDD

Have just done the interview with skating obsessive, the rather lovely Harry Wilson; who has given Middle Mag a little insight into the world of skateboarding!

Here's a video he sent me from a skate jam in Essex, where you can watch him and his skating family get busy on those ramps! x

MORE FROM I LOVE FAKE

I LOVE FAKE ZINE

Just discovered this little gem of a zine, I LOVE FAKE, who's tagline is: 'Celebrating the Spirit of Youth'. Lovely! Middle Magazine will soon be coming up with a just as catchy tagline! So, was just browsing the I LOVE FAKE site, and look who I've come across! Our very own model and my good friend Jamie Conday, who will be modelling for a shoot in the first issue, and hopefully working with us on a video for the website...despite cutting off all his beautiful hair last week! Hey hey, no matter, his new and less hairy appearance will still fit in perfectly with the alternative, urban style shoot next week! Here he is.....(the one in first image on the left)

UPDATE: HOW WE ROLL

So, we've been blogging to you our research and ideas for the creation of Middle Magazine, along with examples and previews of contributors work and articles...so here's a quick description of what we're hoping to actually achieve with Middle...

The magazine is first and foremost focused on the promotion of creativity and raw talent. Genuine, outstanding talent that defies the the mainstream; young artists, photographers, designers, musicians, models, film makers, DJ's/producers, dancers, singers, rappers, illustrators, graphic designers, sportspersons, writers, journalists; whatever the talent is, we're dying to showcase it. The point of all this showing off is not just for aesthetic pleasure, but to ultimately encourage other budding creatives to get out there and embrace what they're good at.

So why are we called Middle? Well to put it bluntly, because the magazine is Midlands based; we're particularly interested in creavity rooting from Nottingham and it's surrounding areas, because there is a lot happening here that people should know about. For the launch issue of Middle, we will be talking to a graphic designer who runs his own clothing label, a quirky, kitsch up and coming artist, an aspiring, busy and beautiful model, and a soon to be signed techno house DJ; featuring some of their finest work so far, and delving into the minds behind their passions.

The soon to be launched Middle Mag site will take the concept of emerging talent to another level, will be completely interactive as creatives can send us their work and we'll be publishing it online for the world to appreciate.

As well as introducing fresh creativity through the magazine and site, Middle will also look back at influential heroes of fashion, culture and the arts. Articles and photographs will be posted to inspire readers and give scope to broaden their imaginations. On top of all this celebration, Middle will also cover articles and features on fashion, music, nightlife, street style and culture in and around Nottingham, so follow the blog for updates on the magazine launch and all the exciting things that are set to come with it! Ciao xxx
